SIDES — Privacy Policy

Last updated: 23 September 2026

The short version

SIDES has no accounts and no logins, and your save lives on your device. We do not track you across apps, and we never see your name or email. Two optional features can send limited data — rewarded ads and anonymous play stats — and both are described below, along with purchases and Game Center, which Apple handles. Nothing is required to play, and nothing is ever sold.

Game saves

Your progress is stored locally on your device (browser local storage / app storage). If you are signed in to iCloud, the App Store app also keeps a copy of your save in your own iCloud account (Apple's key-value storage), so a new device or a reinstall can restore it. We cannot see or read that copy; it is stored and synced by Apple under your iCloud settings. You can also copy your save as a code (☰ → Save) and paste it on another device yourself — the code is only ever where you put it. Deleting the app removes the copy on your device (the iCloud copy stays in your iCloud account — that is how a reinstall finds it). "Reset progress" erases both. Turning off iCloud for SIDES stops the iCloud copy syncing.

Notifications

SIDES can send one kind of notification: a Daily Signal reminder, only if you turn it on. It is scheduled on your device — no server is involved and nothing is sent anywhere. Turn it off in ☰ → Reminders or in iOS Settings.

Ads

The only ads in the game are optional and rewarded: you choose to watch a short video in exchange for an in-game reward. Ads are never forced and never interrupt play. They are served by Google AdMob and are non-personalized — we do not use the device advertising identifier (IDFA), we do not show an App Tracking Transparency prompt, and we do not track you across other apps or websites. To display a non-personalized ad, AdMob receives limited technical and contextual information: a device identifier (used to limit how often you see the same ad and to detect fraudulent clicks — not to profile you), device type, coarse region, which ads were shown and whether they were watched, and basic performance and crash diagnostics from the ad SDK itself. See Google's privacy policy for how AdMob handles that data. Prism Premium opens Second Wind and the Daily Double without an ad.

Anonymous play stats

The App Store app can share anonymous gameplay statistics, strictly opt-in: it asks once, after your first climb, and sends nothing unless you say yes. If you do, it sends gameplay events (for example how far a climb got, which forms were reached, whether a rewarded ad was watched, and a purchase's product and price) to GameAnalytics, tied to a random identifier created for this purpose — never your name, email, Apple ID, advertising identifier or any device identifier. It is used only to understand how the game is played so it can be improved; it is never sold or used for advertising. Turn it off at any time in ☰ → Privacy; turning it off deletes the random identifier and anything not yet sent. The web version never sends play stats.

Sharing

"Share this climb" draws a picture of your climb on your device and hands it to your device's own share sheet. Nothing is sent to us; where it goes next is up to you and the app you share it with.

The Gauntlet (web version only)

The App Store app does not include the Gauntlet. In the web version it is played entirely in your browser: your champion fights rival champions the game generates itself, and nothing about it is sent anywhere. If an online arena is added in a later version, this policy will say exactly what it sends before that version is released.

Game Center

Achievements and leaderboard scores are submitted to Apple's Game Center under Apple's own privacy terms. Game Center is optional; the game works without signing in.

Purchases

In-app purchases are processed entirely by Apple's App Store. We receive no payment details. Purchase receipts are validated by the store platform (via RevenueCat's processing infrastructure) solely to deliver what you bought and to restore it on a new device; see Apple's and RevenueCat's privacy policies for how they handle transaction data.

Children

We do not knowingly collect personal information from anyone, including children. The game has no chat, no user-generated content and no social features beyond Game Center. Ads are non-personalized, and play stats are anonymous and opt-in.
